Federal Work-Study and Student Employment
Youngstown State employs over 1,800 students funded through Federal Work-Study (FWS) and regular
on-campus student employment. Federal Work-Study students are subsidized by the Federal Government
and some job postings will stipulate Work-Study eligibility as a requirement.
All available on-campus student employment positions are posted online at
www.cc.ysu.edu/student-employment.
Federal Work-Study
Federal Work-Study is need-based employment on a part-time, hourly basis. The rate of pay for such
jobs is regulated by the federal minimum wage law. To qualify for Federal Work-Study, you must be enrolled, be in good
academic standing, and have a demonstrated financial need. This program is available to both undergraduate
and graduate students. To qualify, file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by the February 15 deadline and
indicate on the FAFSA that you are interested in this program. For detailed information on Federal Work-Study

Regular On-Campus Student Employment
Youngstown State University students are given absolute priority
for employment in all part-time, non-civil-service, hourly-wage jobs. The rate of pay for such jobs is
governed by minimum-wage law, and students are usually limited to 20 hours of work per week. In order to be
employed on campus a student must be in good academic standing and currently enrolled for a minimum of one course
of no less than three credits.
