Robert and Virginia Hare Scholarship for Distinction in Creative and Critical Writing

Robert and Virginia Hare Scholarship for Distinction in Creative and Critical Writing was established in 1974 by Dr. Mary Virginia Hare in memory of her husband, Dr. Robert R. Hare, a distinguished member of the English faculty of Youngstown State University. On her death, the award was renamed to honor both. The award provides $100 each year to each of three students who demonstrate distinction in one of the following categories of writing: poetry, fiction and drama, and literary criticism. The recipients are chosen by the Hare Awards Committee composed of members of the English faculty.
