Smith Family Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 2023 to honor my grandparents, Laird and Rosemarie Smith, who did not have the opportunity to attend college. Both were hard-working, dedicated parents of 5 children, one of them being Richard Smith, my father, who at 31, gave up so much to become a single parent to an 11-year-old girl. Without him, and the help of his parents, Laird and Rosemarie, I would not have attended college or had the opportunities they and higher education have provided. This scholarship is for a student enrolled full or part-time, who is at least a sophomore in class standing, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology. First preference will be given to a student(s) from Armstrong County (PA) or Westmorland County (PA). Second preference will be given to a student from Trumbull County (OH); then preference to a Mahoning County (OH) resident. Once confirmed that there are no eligible students from the previously listed counties, then the scholarship will be open to student(s) from other counties within Ohio or Pennsylvania.
