Colonel Peter Louis Asimakopoulos ROTC Scholarship


This scholarship was established in 2024 by Colonel Peter Louis Asimakopoulos, United States Army, Retired and Helen Costas Asimakopoulos. Col Asimakopoulos graduated from Chaney High School in 1961 and Youngstown University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. At Youngstown, Col Asimakopoulos participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program and on graduating was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army, Transportation Corps. Over the course of his 30-year military career, Col Asimakopoulos's assignments included postings in Germany, Viet Nam, Greece, the Middle East, Korea, and various locations within the United States, to include the National Capital Region and The Pentagon. Duties included both command and staff positions. After his retirement from the Army, Col Asimakopoulos worked as a private contractor supporting the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and then in the non-profit arena as the Chief Operating Officer of an organization that worked with both private and publicly owned companies, helping them build charitable donation programs for their goods and services and then facilitating the distribution of those goods and services to other non-profit organizations that directly supported those in need, both in the United States and abroad.

This scholarship will be awarded to a 3rd or 4th year Advanced ROTC Cadet, under contract to serve in the United States Army. This student must be enrolled full-time, with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a completed FAFSA that shows their financial need.
