Dr. Helen K. Lafferty Scholarship


This scholarship endowment was created by the Trustees of the John S. and Doris M. Andrews Trust, in honor of Dr. Helen K. Lafferty for her leadership as Interim President of Youngstown State University from February to December 2023. Helen Lamb Lafferty was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, graduated from Ursuline High School, and earned her baccalaureate and graduate degrees from Youngstown State University. She continued her studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her Ph.D. She then completed three post-doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and the National University of Ireland-Galway. Since then, she has spent over four decades at Villanova University as a faculty member and in various leadership roles. Her continuous drive and passion to enrich and support students will always be remembered. This scholarship is for an undergraduate student from Ursuline High School with a 3.5 GPA or higher, who is involved in student activities while attending YSU and is involved in community service activities. Preference will be given to a student from a single-parent household.
