Albert H. Pharis, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2023 in memory of Albert H. Pharis, Jr., by J.D. Williamson II and Bert’s family and friends. Bert was born January 11, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Poland, OH, graduating from Poland Seminary High School in 1968. During high school, Bert was an honor student, a key member of the Poland Seminary basketball team placing as first team center in the Tri-County League, a representative to Buckeye Boys State, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, and made life-long friends. Bert had a successful business career through his various roles with WKBN Broadcasting, as the President/CEO of Wilcom Cellular/Sygnet Wireless in Youngstown, OH; as the President/CEO and Director of Logix Communications in Oklahoma City, OK and as the Chairman/CEO of Ortheon Medical, in Winter Park, FL. His management style was thoughtful, preferring to guide rather than issue orders, and he was a mentor to promising employees. Bert was a good man… a loving, strong, and generous man. This scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled full-time in the Williamson College of Business Administration, who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and a completed FAFSA. Preference will be given to graduates of Poland Seminary High School.
