Virginia O’Hara, RN, CRNA Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2023 in memory of Virginia A. O'Hara by her daughter, Denise O. Ayers. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Youngstown and a graduate of East High School Class of 1957. She received her associate degree in applied science from Youngstown State University and became a Registered Nurse in 1973. She went on to further her education and enrolled in the St. Elizabeth School of Anesthesia and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in 1981. Virginia was a strong, ambitious, and beautiful woman. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, compassion, and her beautiful smile. She lit up the room when she walked in it, and she calmed the fears of the patients she cared for. Virginia was also an amazing mother who taught her children the importance of an education. She taught them to be strong and independent and she is the reason that Denise also graduated from YSU and became a nurse. Virginia would be proud to support others who choose nursing as their profession and follow in her footsteps. This scholarship is open to nursing students in the undergraduate, graduate, online, and/or certificate program, including RN-BSN students as well. A GPA of 2.75 or above is required.
