G. Leo Winger Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2017 through a gift from the estate of G. Leo Winger. Mr. Winger graduated from Youngstown University in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He served as a member of the YSU Foundation Board of Trustees for over 25 years and upon his resignation in 2013, he was bestowed Emeriti Trustee Status. He was born in New Wilmington PA, in 1919. He was a graduate of Hickory High School and went on to marry his sweetheart, the former Irene Richards, in January of 1940. Mr. Winger served our country in the Army during World War II, and following his discharge returned to the Shenango Valley to begin what would go on to become a 49-year career in the steel castings industry. An eligible student for this scholarship must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, a graduate of a western Pennsylvania High School, with a completed FAFSA. Student(s) may be enrolled full or part-time in any field of study.
