District Three Nurses - Helen Popa Master’s in Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2023 by an endowment made by Helen E. Popa BSN, RN, in 2002 and entrusted to District Three Nurses Association, which serves Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana Counties. District Three Nurses Association has maintained the Helen E. Popa master’s in nursing (MSN) Scholarship Fund and awarded several scholarships over many years. This fund was bequeathed to District Three Nurses Association by Helen Popa BSN, RN, to advance the nursing profession and nurses, who are seeking an advanced (MSN) nursing degree. She was one of the first Youngstown nurses to hold a BSN degree and was an honorary member of the Ohio Nurses Association and the American Nurse Association.
The District Three Nurses Association hopes the recipients of the Helen E. Popa, MSN Scholarship will continue her legacy by being a strong advocate for nursing education, nurses, and the profession. Recipients for this scholarship must be enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Be a resident of Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana counties, attending full or part time with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to a student who was a member of District Three Nurses Association or a family descendant. Student(s) must highlight their leadership activities, community service involvement and future career plans in the field of nursing on the online application.
