Dr. John J. Yemma, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is being established by Mrs. Rosetta Yemma and family to honor Dr. John J. Yemma Sr., a loving husband, father and founding Dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services. He was an exceptional administrator and teacher and he demonstrated daily his strong commitment to students throughout his 37 years at YSU. Dr. Yemma received his Ph.D. from Penn State University, his Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University and his BA from Youngstown State University. He received several distinguished professor titles, served as Chairperson of the Department of Health Professions and Dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services. His service and commitment to all was of an iconic nature throughout his career. Rosetta Yemma and her 7 children now amend the scholarship to honor their father and loving husband. This endowment further demonstrates the desire of Dr. Yemma, lifetime resident of Struthers, to assist others by providing scholarships for YSU students who pursue ongoing education in Bitonte College of Health and Human Services. Applicants must be enrolled in a four year baccalaureate program in a health related field offered in the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services; completed at least 24 semester hours; achieved a minimum of 3.0 GPA; completed the FAFSA.
