Fred J Pisani Scholarship


Fred J. Pisani was a lifelong resident of Youngstown, a graduate of the Rayen School, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Education at Youngstown University in 1950. He was also a drummer in the Youngstown University Marching Band. Later, he went on to earn his master’s degree from Westminster College. He taught in the Youngstown City School system for 35 years, primarily at Hayes Jr. High and The Rayen School. Fred was also a veteran of the United States Navy, enlisting during his senior year at Rayen, and completing his high school education while in the service. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor in the later stages of WWII and was a member of VFW Post 1423. Fred was very active in the community, volunteering or serving as a Board member for: Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, the Youngstown Schoolmasters Club, the Youngstown Education Association, St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Boy Scouts, and was also an active member of St. Edward Parish. He was an avid YSU football fan and was a season ticket holder, and a member of the Penguin Club. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicant must have a completed FAFSA demonstrating need. Preference will be given to students from an inner-city community. Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
