John G. "Jack" Walter Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2021 by the family of John G. “Jack” Walter. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, later earning his business degree from Youngstown State University and would go on to a career in advertising that spanned several decades. Jack also worked for multiple local steel companies including Youngstown Sheet & Tube, United States Steel, Jones & Laughlin, LTV Corporation, and Warren Consolidated Industries. He retired from Warren Consolidated as their Director of Advertising and PR in 1998, and continued to serve as a consultant with the company until 2004. He also served on numerous Boards within the Valley – including the Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corporation, Youngstown Symphony Society, the Butler Institute of American Art, Better Business Bureau, Easter Seal of the Mahoning Valley, Tippecanoe Country Club, and the Youngstown State University Alumni Association. Jack was also a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Boardman, where he and his wife attended services every Sunday. Jack always put others first, and this scholarship is symbolic of his leadership, selflessness, and service to others. His wife Geraldine “Gerry”, and their children, Judy, Barb, and Jill are proud to keep his legacy alive with this scholarship. An eligible student for this scholarship is enrolled in the Williamson College of Business Administration. First preference will be given to an advertising major, and second preference will be given to a marketing major.
