LaVearn Violet Gomez Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2021 by the Slanina Family of Youngstown, Ohio. LaVearn Violet Gomez was a lifelong educator and lover of history. She was a 1971 graduate of Youngstown State University and was active with the Newman Center where she met many of her lifelong friends. Proud of her Croatian heritage, she was a member of the local Croatian Lodge and played in the Tamburitzan group. To be eligible for this scholarship, student must be enrolled in a Teacher Education Program. They must be a graduate of a public or private high school in the city of Youngstown, Ohio, and can be attending YSU full-time or part-time. This scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students.
