Dr. Rashada Alexander and Dr. Kimberly Ford - Help A Sister Out Scholarship

This scholarship endowment was established in 2022 by Dr. Kimberly Ford and Dr. Rashada Alexander. They met in 1996 while taking chemistry classes at YSU for medical school and graduate school, respectively. As YSU alumni, they wanted to provide support to other Black and African American women pursuing degrees in STEM fields. In 2012, they initiated the Help A Sister Out (HASO) Scholarship with help from Dr. Sherri Lovelace¬Cameron, a mentor and a long-time faculty member in the YSU Chemistry Department. With Dr. Lovelace-Cameron's collaboration, they funded an annual scholarship targeted to support African American women in the College of STEM for 8 years before establishing the scholarship endowment, which will provide support for years to come. An eligible student for this scholarship is an African-American female who is enrolled in the College of STEM with at least a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, but preference will be given to an applicant majoring in chemistry, biology, or physics.
