Larry Hirschl Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2021 by Larry Hirschl’s wife, Marsha, and their children. Larry was a captain in the US Army, a Vietnam Veteran, a business owner, a chemist, and a high school Chemistry teacher in the Youngstown City School district for over 20 years. He also taught Chemistry at YSU. Larry earned his B.S in Chemistry from The Ohio State University before being sent to Vietnam. Afterwards, he settled in Youngstown where he earned his M.S degree from YSU. Marsha was also a student at YSU, and all three of their children are YSU Alumni. Larry’s wife and children would like to honor his life and legacy by helping YSU students that have graduated from a Youngstown City school lessen their financial burden to attend college. To be eligible to receive this scholarship, a student must be a graduate of a Youngstown City School, have a completed FAFSA, and maintained at least a 2.5 GPA. 1st preference will be given to Chemistry or Biochemistry majors; 2nd preference will be given to Physics / Astronomy majors; 3rd preference will be given to a student majoring in Mathematics; and 4th preference will be given to a Biology, Environmental Studies, Forensic Science, Geology, Medical Laboratory, or Nursing major.
