Dorothy Kennedy Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
This scholarship was established in 2016 in memory of Dorothy M. Kennedy. Dorothy was a professor of Nursing at Youngstown State University for 25 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1957 from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. In 1961, she received a master's in education from Westminster College, and her master's in nursing in 1988 from Edinboro University. Dorothy was a staff nurse at Sharon Regional Health System from 1952-55; a school nurse at Duquesne University from 1955-57; a nursing instructor at Sharon Regional from 1957-64; director of nursing education there from 1964-69; and professor of nursing at Youngstown State University from 1969-94. Dorothy retired as professor emeritus from Youngstown State on December 31, 1994. This scholarship is for a sophomore student enrolled in the entry-level BSN program, attending full-time, with a minimum 2.8 GPA. Preference will be given to a student from western Pennsylvania.
