Lynn Alexander Zigoris and Thomas Zigoris Education Minority Scholarship

Lynn (YSU '71) and Tom ('74 & '75) began their YSU educational pursuits studying foreign languages--Lynn in French and Tom in German, but later met each other in an educational sociology class. Lynn ultimately earned a business degree and teaching certification. Lynn continued her language studies with German at YSU and the Goethe Institute in Germany. She pursued a career with the federal government that led to IT and IT security, serving with DOD, the State Department, and lastly with the National Park Service. Tom majored in German with a minor in education. He also earned an MBA from the WCBA and was commissioned through the YSU ROTC program in 1975. While serving in the Army's Foreign Area Officer Program, Tom studied Russian, earning an M.A. in Russian Studies from the University of Michigan. Tom served 28 years in the Army, and Lynn 28 years in federal service, both serving their nation in the U.S., Germany, and in the former Soviet Union. Lynn and Tom recognize YSU's impact on the community, and hope that this scholarship will empower a YSU student to be an agent of change in young lives for future generations in the Youngstown community.
