Robert W. Winterburn Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2020 by Thomas & Phyllis Winterburn in honor of Thomas's father, Robert. Robert was the first college graduate in our family, graduating from Heidelburg College in 1952. He achieved all Ohio conference and MVP awards in his senior year. Robert served his country in the Army at Fort Bragg in 1954 and 1955 where he excelled in football and baseball. Robert's coaching career began as head coach at Canfield High School from 1957-1959 (2 losses in 3 seasons). He returned to Heidelburg as head coach in 1960 and 1961. Austintown Fitch High School recruited Bob to return home as head coach for the Fitch Falcons from 1962-1963 (SVC Champs in 1962). After an accomplished coaching career, my father achieved his Master's in Education from Kent State University in order to advance into administration. He worked his way to the top position as Senior Principal from 1972-1983 at Austintown Fitch High. This scholarship is for a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, who is attending YSU full-time and majoring in Business or Education. This student must also have a 3.0 GPA and a completed FAFSA (financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement)
