Dr. John F. Geletka Scholarship in Dental Hygiene
This endowment was established in 2020 by Dr. John F. Geletka, a prominent Youngstown area dentist. Dr. Geletka was born and raised in Campbell, Ohio, and graduated from Campbell Memorial High School. He attended The Ohio State University for two years, then transferred to Kent State University to complete his bachelor's degree. He then returned to Ohio State and earned his doctorate in dental surgery. For over 30 years, Dr. Geletka's dedication to Youngstown State University has been reflected in his professional background and volunteerism. In the 1970s, Dr. Geletka's YSU career began when he served as an associate professor of allied health for three years and for two years chaired the YSU Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee, which founded the YSU School of Dental Hygiene. From 1978 through 1992, Dr. Geletka was on the board of trustees for YSU, with the last two years appointed as chair. In 2016, he became a board member at the YSU Foundation. An eligible student(s) for this scholarship must be enrolled full-time in the Dental Hygiene program. Student(s) must be a sophomore in class standing or higher, with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
