Elena Rose Herubin Scholarship
This scholarship is established to honor our daughter Elena Rose Herubin and support students pursuing a major in Special Education at Youngstown State University. Elena was born the youngest of three children without incident or apparent health issues on August 25, 2001. During her first six months she began experiencing seizures of an unknown origin. It was ultimately determined, through genetic testing, that she has a microdeletion along chromosome 5q Band 14.3, a rare genetic condition that inhibited her cognitive and physical development. Through hard work and loving care received from her healthcare providers and school instructors, she has exceeded the expected development common with this deletion. She is a happy young lady that continues to bless us and surprise everyone with her continued development, infectious laugh, and affectionate smile and hugs. An eligible student(s) for this scholarship must be majoring in Special Education Mild/Moderate. Student(s) must have a minimum 2.5 GPA or above. A completed FAFSA is required because financial need is a requirement. Preference given to graduates of Ursuline High School, in Youngstown, Ohio.
