Florence K. George Scholarship

This endowment was established by Gail George in loving memory of her mother, Florence K. George. Florence was a 1943 graduate from South High School and in 1945, graduated from Youngstown Hospital of Nursing. This was during the period surrounding World War II. Florence entered the nursing profession with her sights set on helping the war efforts as a battlefield nurse. Fortunately, the war ended before she enlisted and she spent much of her career as a head nurse at Youngstown Southside Hospital. Her loving hands touched many patients who were fortunate to have had such a dedicated and passionate caregiver as their nurse. It is in this spirit that the Florence K. George Scholarship is founded.
