John Szmaj and Troy Brassard Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is established in memory of Johnie and Troy by their siblings. Johnie was born in Youngstown OH, while Troy was born in Marlboro MA. Both were brought up in loving homes and were carefree in their youth. John was the eldest of four while Troy was the middle child of three. They each took different paths after high school. Johnie went off to YSU and earning both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business. Troy went off to the Far East for several years to enjoy whatever life could offer. As fortune would have it, they met in 1994 which began a wonderful life together. They settled in Boston, each working in retail as their chosen profession. Through the years, Johnie and Troy would always be there for family and friends. They expressed their love with laughs and cries, hugs and kisses, greeting cards, handwritten notes, a phone call or just a text. Johnie was the steady rock while Troy was the dreamy optimist --seeing the good in everyone and everything. Their relationship was one of honesty, integrity and most of all--love. They always put others first. In that same spirit, Johnie and Troy wanted to provide this gift to an individual who embodies dedication, hard work and most importantly, being there for the ones you love. They would insist that you stay true to yourself and never forget life brings many experiences, but those experiences last a lifetime when shared with others. An eligible student(s) for this scholarship must be enrolled full-time in the Nursing Program or enrolled in the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU. Student(s) must also have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.
