Laddie J. Fedor Scholarship in Education
The Laddie J. Fedor Scholarship in Education was created in 2019 to honor his 37-year career in the field of Education. He began as a classroom teacher, served as both an elementary and high school principal and retired as the superintendent of Struthers City Schools.
Laddie Fedor graduated from Struthers High School in 1942 and went on to serve in General George S. Patton's 3rd Army in World War II. He was a Sergeant in the 575th AAA Battery, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Youngstown State University (then Youngstown College) in 1949. Laddie was honored by being elected President of his class. The class of 1949 was instrumental in placing the insignia stone in front of Jones Hall with YSU's name plate.
Laddie Fedor put service to others as a priority in his life and felt that to serve as an educator was a very special calling. His children, Sharon L. Fedor Korte and Laddie David Fedor, have endowed this scholarship in Education in hopes that future YSU students will follow in the footsteps of Laddie J. Fedor.
An eligible student for this scholarship must be an undergraduate enrolled in a teacher education field, attending full-time, and a junior or senior in class standing. Preference will be given to graduates of Struthers High School.
