Quilty Family Scholarship


Formal education provides a proven pathway toward personal achievement and potential optimal life fulfillment. The Quilty Family Scholarship at Youngstown State University is established to provide college age students from Niles and Massillon, Ohio with tuition support so that these students may reach their potential. Jim and his wife Lorraine's hometowns are Niles and Massillon. Jim graduated from Youngstown University in 1960. He later earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University. Board certified in pediatrics he engaged in a multi-specialty career that spanned five decades. Lorraine passed away in 2013. They had four children. Lorraine was a selfless woman who engaged in child rearing and home making, self-education, humanitarianism, devotion to literature and received community recognition for her photography and greeting card creativity. Prior to her death, Lorraine and Jim made a commitment to YSU to establish a fund at YSU sufficient to support awarding one or more scholarships annually in perpetuity.

An eligible student(s) for this scholarship be attending YSU full-time, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, achieved junior or senior status, pursuing a degree in art, education, literature, photography, philosophy, pre-med, biology, chemistry, or YSU BaccMed program. First preference given to a resident of Massillon or Niles, Ohio who attended Massillon Washington High School or Niles McKinley High School; residents who have attended private, religious and/or charter schools are also eligible.
