Palguta-Eicher Education Scholarship


This scholarship was established in 2017 by Edward J. Palguta and his wife, Mary Lou Eicher, who value the importance of education in the lives of young people. Edward was born in Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He attended YSU for two years before joining the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he attended Ohio University, earning a degree in Communications. Edward spent his entire career in Television and Communications, spanning 40 years. Mary Lou Eicher, originally from Canton, Ohio attended YSU, earning her BSE and MSE in education. Her teaching career spanned 42 years, all in the Youngstown Diocesan school system. Mary Lou spent 11 years at the elementary level and 31 years at Cardinal Mooney High School. She served as both a teacher and a guidance counselor. Their hope is that this scholarship will help education majors prepare for the greatest career possible, educating the next generation for years to come. This scholarship is for an undergraduate student attending full-time, majoring in Education with a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a student from Mahoning, Columbiana or Trumbull counties. A completed FAFSA is required, financial need is a consideration.
