Nancy Fitori Kubina Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2018 in memory of Nancy Kubina by her son, Dr. Glenn Kubina. Nancy, the daughter of Italian immigrants, was a lifelong resident and notable citizen of Youngstown. She was a graduate of East High School. She attended Youngstown College to earn her BA in Social Studies and later her second degree, a BS in Education at the newly renamed Youngstown State University. This was the foundation for her 24-year career as a first-grade teacher at Youngstown's Highland Ave and Washington Schools. After retiring from the Youngstown school system, Mrs. Kubina co-founded the Senior Center of Mahoning County and served on the board of the Elderly Nutrition Program, and volunteered for the Dacas Hot Meals program. In 1985 she was honored as the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Mahoning County, and was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1998. Though small in stature, Nancy Fitori Kubina was mighty in spirit, shaping the lives of her three sons and hundreds of Youngstown students with her lifelong love of learning and desire to contribute. This scholarship is for an undergraduate student, attending full or part-time with a minimum 2.5 GPA, who is majoring in Early or Middle Childhood Education.
