Don Guthrie Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2014 by Mrs. Deborah Guthrie, through the generosity of family, friends and the community, in honor of her husband, Don. Don spent more than 40 years in radio and television. Don once stated that you need to feel like family and present a welcome face and voice if you are coming into someone's home every evening. It is for that purpose, that this scholarship provides YSU communications majors the opportunity to achieve their educational goal of becoming a professional journalist or broadcaster. An eligible student(s) for this scholarship can be attending full or part-time as a communication studies major, which includes journalism, telecommunications or any other degree program related to communications. Sophomore and above are encouraged to apply, preference given to juniors and seniors. Student(s) must have a minimum 3.3 GPA. Preference given to students from the following counties: Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Lawrence or Mercer. Completed FAFSA is required, need is a consideration.
