Carol Franken Scholarship


This scholarship was established in 2018 in honor of Carol Franken. Carol's desire to learn lead her to college at the age of fifty to earn her Bachelor's degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from YSU in 1981. Majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Gerontology, she would later earn her Master's of Science in Education from YSU in 1983. Recognized by the National Board for Counselors, National Gerontological Counseling Trainer certification and licensed by the State of Ohio as a Professional Counselor while working for NEOUCOM, Carol was ahead of her time. Her dedication to the awareness and impact for the elderly and the sociology of aging led her to teach at YSU after retiring from NEOUCOM in 1991. This scholarship is for a student(s) majoring in Gerontology from Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana county. Preference will be given to a student who has completed an internship/fieldwork experience curriculum. Preference will be given to a student with work experience.
