Criteria for award eligibility:
- 30 ACT/ SAT combined Math & Verbal 1300
- Be recognized as a National Merit or Achievement Finalist or rank in
the upper 15 percent of high school class pursuing a college preparatory
curriculum (4 units of English, 3 units of math, 3 units of social
studies, and 3 units of science), and have achieved a minimum Enhanced
ACT score of 30 or SAT score of 1340.
Minimum Criteria for award consideration**:
- 28 ACT/ SAT combined Math & Verbal 1220
- Be recognized as a National Merit or Achievement Semi-finalist or
rank in the upper 15 percent of high school class pursuing a college
preparatory curriculum (4 units of English, 3 units of math, 3 units of
social studies, and 3 units of science), and have achieved a minimum
Enhanced ACT score of 28 or SAT score of 1260.
- Be recommended by the Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars Committee.
Value: All fees and tuition*, on-campus room and board
fees, and a $360 academic-year allowance for books and supplies
(estimated at $12,500). If renewed for the full four years of
study, the estimated value is approximately $50,000.
Renewal: This scholarship is renewable each year up
to a maximum of four years if the recipient maintains a 3.5
cumulative GPA and completes a minimum of 24 credit hours per
academic year. Students must maintain a full-time on-campus
enrollment status of at least 12 credit hours per term.
Application: If you are applying as a high school
candidate, all application materials must be submitted by February
15 and must be certified by your high school administration.
A completed application will include both an Application for
Admission to YSU and the Leslie H. Cochran University Scholar Award
Application. This procedure applies only to those applying for
the Leslie H. Cochran University Scholar awards.
* Tuition granted up to 32 hours per academic year, not to exceed the bulk rate.
** In special cases, students with outstanding
academic credentials along with some other
distinguished achievement (in the arts, humanities,
or sciences, for example) will be considered for an
